Teddy Park, established by the Jerusalem Foundation, is situated below the Old City Walls, next to Hutzot Hayotzer Artist Colony compound. The park, which is part the Mitchell and National Parks surrounding the city walls, commemorates the work of legendary mayor of Jerusalem and the founder of the Jerusalem Foundation Teddy Kollek by means of eight stations spread throughout the park telling his life story, interwoven with the life of the State of Israel.
In the heart of the park is the Hassenfeld Fountain- a modern fountain that combines a spectacular show of water, light and music where many residents and tourists fill the park on a nightly basis to see the show. There are unique environmental sculptures located around the park, among them a sundial and sculpture in the shape of a giant globe.
On the outskirts of the park is the Bialkin Visitors Center that tells the story of the development of modern Jerusalem during the tenure of Teddy Kollek as Mayor of Jerusalem, through 3 dimensional film screened via new technology inside a glass pyramid. In addition it is possible to find in the visitors centers photographs of Teddy with famous personalities from around the world and personal items from his office desk and home, including an original etching Picasso drew of Teddy on the back of a catalogue from the Israel Museum found after Teddy’s death.
I was amazed and thrilled by the sculpture in the shape of a giant globe made of chrome and designed by David Breuer Weil. Jerusalem is the centre of the world surrounding by the giant globe. Sculpture is so beautiful and you can enter inside and walk arround.
